Arlington County Fair August 18-22nd, 2010

Come to Thomas Jefferson Community Center August 18th-22nd for the Arlington County Fair.  There will be rides, competitive exhibits, food vendors, racing piglets, a monster mural for kids to draw on, and Bixby’s Rainforest Rescue featuring animals from the rainforest.  For more information, click the website here.

Capitals Development Camp

Free Family Movies at Ballston

Regal Entertainment Group is presenting a Free Family Movie Festival Tuesday and Wednesday mornings now through August at Ballston and other area theatres.  See the complete schedule here.  Movies begin at 10:00 with tickets available at 9:15.  All shows are first come, first serve.

Washington-Lee Summer Concert Series

Washington-Lee Summer Concert SeriesThe US Army Band begins it’s “Washington-Lee Summer Concert Series” tonight, July 8th at 7:30  with the US Army Blues  bringing their high-energy and artistic verve to this program  featuring big-band classics and new compositions by its members. 

The series continues  on July 22nd with the US Army Ceremonial Band and July 29th with the U.S. Army Band Downrange with Washington-Lee High School student and Arlington Idol 2010 winner, Sophia Delmar. 

The U.S. Army Concert Band performs August 5th and the U.S. Army Orchestra closes out the sereis on August 12th.

All performances will be held at the Washington-Lee High School Auditorium in Arlington and are free and open to the public.

Arlington in the Movies

Lubber Run Amphitheatre will be the site of a series of movies and TV shows featuring Arlington. The series, running most Fridays and Saturdays from June 18-July 24, will include shows that were filmed on location in Arlington as well as shows featuring Arlington actors like Sandra Bullock, Warren Beatty, Shirley MacLaine and Katie Couric.  The kick off on June 18th will include Former Arlington Film Commissioner and movie buff Rob Farr presenting film clips and photographs of Arlington as seen through the eyes of Hollywood Producers.  For a complete schedule, click here.

Air Force Cycling Classic June 12th and 13th

Clarendon Cup, Crystal Cup

This weekend the Air Force Cycling Classic will be held featuring two full days of riding and racing from kids to top pros.  Saturday rides will be on a 1 km course near the Clarendon Metro and Sunday’s races will be on a 12.5 km course in Crystal City.  Registration information is avaialble here.

It’s World Cup Time!

And Summers Restaurant in the Courthouse area is one of the area’s best places to watch soccer. Every game will be played live as well as rebroadcast in the evening. Go to their website for the full schedule.  At least this year you don’t have to go at 3 in the morning to watch a game live. Go USA!

Crystal Screen Outdoor Movies Begin 6/7

Crystal Screen outdoor moviesThe Crystal City BID presents its 2010 free outdoor film festival on the Crystal Screen beginning Monday June 7th and continuing Mondays through 8/16.  This year’s theme is “Star Trek”.  Dine at area restaurants before the movie or bring a picnic.  More information can be found here.
